Reverion Raises $175 Million in Series B Funding Led by Kembara
Munich/Zurich — EnergyTech company Reverion has raised over USD 175 million in its Series B funding round. — The funding round was led by Kembara, a European growth fund focused on deep tech and climate technologies, as the lead investor. In addition to existing investors, new participants include Allianz, KfW Capital, Aurum Impact, and Carbon Equity. Existing investors Extantia, Energy Impact Partners, UVC Partners, the European Innovation Council Fund (EIC Fund), alfa8, and Possible Ventures have participated again.
Under the leadership of Munich-based partner Sebastian Frech, GÖRG provided legal counsel to the EnergyTech company Reverion in connection with its Series B financing round totaling USD 175 million.
Reverion builds highly efficient fuel cell power plants that generate electricity from gas, enable flexible energy storage through reversibility, and can operate with negative CO₂ emissions. With the capital raised, Reverion plans to further scale up industrial mass production and establish a new production facility in Germany with an annual manufacturing capacity of 250 megawatts and up to 800 jobs.
With the successful Series B funding round, Reverion is taking the next step in its evolution from a deep-tech startup to an internationally scaling technology company. The funding is intended, in particular, to enable large-scale industrial production and the expansion into new markets. Demand for the technology is growing, particularly from energy-intensive industries and data centers.
Reverion, a spin-off of the Technical University of Munich (TUM), has leveraged decades of research and development in the field of solid-oxide electrochemical cell technology to develop a highly efficient and reversible gas-to-electricity system that is modular, controllable, and captures its own CO₂. The company’s products can be operated with various types of gas (natural gas, biogas, synthesis gas, hydrogen) to generate electricity with unprecedented efficiency and, in the reverse process, produce e‑methane—a feature that is unique worldwide.
“For DeepTech companies, the scaling phase is when it becomes clear whether technological excellence will translate into an industrially successful business model. Reverion’s Series B financing is an important next step in this regard,” said Sebastian Frech, a partner at Görg.
The GÖRG team advises the spin-off from the Technical University of Munich not only on financing matters but also on various contractual and operational issues—particularly with regard to supplier and customer contracts.
