Fire detection satellites: Series‑B over € 37 million for OroraTech
Munich — OroraTech, the global leader in fire detection and risk assessment, has expanded its Series B funding round to €37 million. The round was led by BNP Paribas Solar Impulse Venture Fund, with participation from Rabo Ventures and long-term investors Bayern Kapital, Edaphon and the European Circular Bioeconomy Fund (ECBF).
With ten satellites already in orbit, OroraTech provides the world’s most consistent and comprehensive thermal data stream, enabling the creation of a digital twin of the Earth. This dynamic model allows users to understand every wildfire event around the world, around the clock, and simulate future fire behavior with unprecedented accuracy. By building both the infrastructure in space and the intelligent data pipelines on Earth, OroraTech transforms raw thermal data into actionable information.
Martin Langer, CEO and CTO of OroraTech (photo © OroraTech), said: “We are capitalizing on a rare opportunity where our scalable space infrastructure meets ground-breaking AI. The backing of two of Europe’s leading banks is testament to OroraTech’s position at the forefront of the market and will further drive our growth as a foundational provider of thermal intelligence to many industries and governments worldwide.”
Lucas Guillet, Investment Director at BNP Paribas Solar Impulse Venture Fund, said: “We are delighted to support OroraTech, which has built a strong reputation in the space industry and the wildfire ecosystem. Their ability to develop and operate nanosatellites and interpret complex data has contributed to the commercial success of their Wildfire Intelligence solution. Our network together with Rabobank offers a promising opportunity to support solutions that can improve the protection of forests worldwide.”
Shishir Sinha, Executive Director Rabo Ventures, commented: “The increasing intensity and frequency of wildfires poses a significant threat to our planet as they emit billions of tons of CO2 annually, drive biodiversity loss and impact the overall resilience of our ecosystems. We at Rabo Ventures are delighted to support Martin and the team at OroraTech, who have developed a globally scalable wildfire detection platform that is already delivering value to stakeholders in Australia, Europe and the Americas.
Last year, OroraTech closed almost 100 million euros in contracts and venture capital. This momentum underscores the company’s position as a trusted provider of real-time information from space. Its innovative wildfire management platform, Wildfire Solution, can assess the risk, detect the outbreak and predict the growth of any wildfire on Earth.
