Helsing Raises $1.8 Billion in Series E Funding Round
Berlin/Munich – Helsing, Europe’s leading AI company in the defense sector, has announced a Series E funding round of $1.8 billion. The company is now valued at $18 billion. New and existing investors are participating in the funding round, including Dragoneer Investment Group, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Disruptive, Iconiq, Growth Equity at Goldman Sachs Alternatives, JPMorgan Chase, Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments), General Catalyst, Plural, and Stepstone.
Investor demand significantly exceeded the available funding in this round. This underscores the high and growing confidence in AI-powered and software-based defense technology. Helsing remains majority-owned by European investors. The company’s board of directors also remains unchanged. Daniel Ek and Tom Enders serve as co-chairs. The other members are Jeannette zu Fürstenberg and Denis Mercier, as well as the founders of Helsing.
With its Series E funding round, Helsing is accelerating its mission to develop entirely new AI platforms and integrate them into the defense capabilities of a growing number of partner countries. Helsing’s existing investors include Prima Materia, Accel, and Greenoaks.
YPOG provided comprehensive legal counsel to Helsing in connection with its Series E financing round totaling 1.8 billion USD. This financing follows several previous funding rounds, in which YPOG also advised the company.
Helsing develops AI-based capabilities for the defense sector and builds technologies to protect democratic societies. The company combines software, autonomous systems, and AI applications to strengthen European technological sovereignty and defense capabilities.
Helsing plans to use the fresh capital to further expand its technological capabilities across all domains and scale up its development. The funding is intended to help the company further develop its platform, products, and industrial capabilities and consolidate its role as a European defense technology company.
“YPOG has been advising Helsing since its first funding round in November 2021 and has been supporting the company continuously with its capital initiatives ever since. “It’s impressive to see how consistently Helsing is expanding its strategic position and driving its technological development forward,” says Dr. Benjamin Ullrich, a partner at YPOG.
“We are pleased to have once again supported Helsing in the largest funding round in the country’s history, which serves as a beacon not only for the German ecosystem. The Series E round underscores the particular relevance of technological innovations for the European security and defense landscape,” adds Dr. Johannes Janning, partner at YPOG.
