Abbr. for criti­cal infra­struc­tures, i.e. faci­li­ties, systems and orga­niza­ti­ons that play an important role in main­tai­ning social func­tions. Their fail­ure can have a signi­fi­cant impact on the commu­nity, for exam­ple in the form of supply bott­len­ecks or thre­ats to public safety.
