Swiss AI startup Giotto.ai aims for USD 200 million round
Lausanne / London (IT BOLTWISE) — Swiss AI startup Giotto.ai is planning a significant funding round to advance its research in the field of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). With a target valuation of over USD 1 billion and a planned investment of more than USD 200 million, the company is positioning itself as a serious player in the European AI landscape.
Investment bank Lazard has been appointed to lead the capital raise to accelerate Giotto’s AI research, develop commercial prototypes for corporate and government clients and contribute to the AI community through open source releases.
Giotto.ai was founded in 2017 by CEO Aldo Podesta, who previously worked in sales strategy at Philip Morris. The company has raised around 19 million US dollars to date. Giotto originally developed a compliance tool for medical devices, which was sold to the medical technology company RQM+ in 2022, before focusing entirely on basic research in reasoning models.
The company stands out with measurable progress on AI reasoning model challenges and currently leads the Kaggle ARC-AGI‑2 constrained ranking with a score of 25%. This benchmark tests a model’s ability to infer rules from limited examples and shows early signs of general reasoning capabilities. Giotto’s approach emphasizes efficiency and intelligent resource allocation and performs well under strict computational constraints such as no internet access, limited runtime and a fixed hardware budget.
In contrast to large US AI labs such as OpenAI and xAI, which are known for training massive models on vast computational resources, Giotto focuses on developing AI systems that operate under fixed resource constraints, with the goal of cost-effective and generalizable AI research.
The upcoming funding is intended to accelerate the development of Giotto’s commercial applications while supporting the company’s contributions to the broader AI research community through open source publications. By combining deep research expertise, efficient technology and strategic commercialization plans, Giotto.ai is positioning itself as a serious contender in the ambitious European AI landscape.
