Educa\u00adtion and science, rese\u00adarch and inno\u00adva\u00adtion are the crucial foun\u00adda\u00adti\u00adons for our coun\u00adtry\u2019s compe\u00adti\u00adti\u00adve\u00adness. Germany has ther\u00ade\u00adfore opted for an active science and inno\u00adva\u00adtion policy with great success. Since 2006, the German govern\u00admen\u00adt\u2019s high-tech stra\u00adtegy has helped govern\u00adment and indus\u00adtry invest more in rese\u00adarch and deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment than ever before. Germany is in the top group when it comes to export\u00ading high-tech goods, with five of Euro\u00adpe\u2019s ten most rese\u00adarch-inten\u00adsive compa\u00adnies based here. Three percent of gross dome\u00adstic product is inves\u00adted in rese\u00adarch and deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment in Germany. Howe\u00adver, we need to do even better if we are to successfully master the inter\u00adna\u00adtio\u00adnal compe\u00adti\u00adtion between locations.<\/p>\n

New compe\u00adti\u00adtors are ente\u00adring global markets all over the world. In order to move our coun\u00adtry forward on the path to beco\u00adming a global inno\u00adva\u00adtion leader and to achieve strong value crea\u00adtion in Germany, we must iden\u00adtify oppor\u00adtu\u00adni\u00adties early on, parti\u00adci\u00adpate in the latest tech\u00adno\u00adlo\u00adgi\u00adcal deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adments and imple\u00adment ideas quickly. With the new high-tech stra\u00adtegy, we are focu\u00adsing on six areas that are of parti\u00adcu\u00adlar importance for our society, for new growth and for future prospe\u00adrity: Digi\u00adtal Economy and Society, Sustainable Busi\u00adness and Energy, Inno\u00adva\u00adtive Work, Healthy Living, Intel\u00adli\u00adgent Mobi\u00adlity and Civil Security.<\/p>\n

Among other things, we want to use rese\u00adarch and inno\u00adva\u00adtion to pave the way for more resource-effi\u00adci\u00adent, envi\u00adron\u00admen\u00adtally friendly, soci\u00adally respon\u00adsi\u00adble and thus more sustainable produc\u00adtion and consump\u00adtion.
