This divi\u00adsion of labor allows Daim\u00adler Truck to opti\u00admize deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment efforts while enab\u00adling rapid time-to-market.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In addi\u00adtion to vehicle deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment, KEYOU also places a strong empha\u00adsis on long-term custo\u00admer support as a key aspect of the part\u00adner\u00adship. As a next step, KEYOU and Daim\u00adler Truck plan to hold discus\u00adsions on how exis\u00adting service and main\u00adten\u00adance struc\u00adtures could be utili\u00adzed in the future to offer fleet opera\u00adtors a high level of opera\u00adtio\u00adnal relia\u00adbi\u00adlity and availability.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Through this colla\u00adbo\u00adra\u00adtion, both compa\u00adnies are laying the ground\u00adwork for a long-term indus\u00adtrial part\u00adner\u00adship in the field of hydro\u00adgen-based commer\u00adcial vehicle power\u00adtrains. The colla\u00adbo\u00adra\u00adtion deli\u00adbera\u00adtely goes beyond a mere tech\u00adno\u00adlo\u00adgi\u00adcal partnership.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here\u2019s How the Coope\u00adra\u00adtion Model Is Implemented<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The first vehicle will be the KEYOU HICE.40 trac\u00adtor-trai\u00adler, which is sche\u00addu\u00adled to be laun\u00adched in 2027. \u2014 Under the agree\u00adment, Daim\u00adler Truck plans to sell Merce\u00addes-Benz Actros L 1848 trac\u00adtor trucks and engi\u00adnes manu\u00adfac\u00adtu\u00adred in Mannheim\u2014based on the exis\u00adting 12.8\u2011liter engine platform\u2014to KEYOU. The Munich-based company KEYOU is respon\u00adsi\u00adble for the tech\u00adno\u00adlo\u00adgi\u00adcal adapt\u00ada\u00adtion to a hydro\u00adgen-powered inter\u00adnal combus\u00adtion engine. The tech\u00adni\u00adcal conver\u00adsion of the trucks and the inte\u00adgra\u00adtion of the KEYOU-inside engine will be carried out by quali\u00adfied exter\u00adnal service providers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The resul\u00adting KEYOU HICE.40 trac\u00adtor-trai\u00adler is desi\u00adgned for opera\u00adtion with a gross vehicle weight of 40 metric tons and, accor\u00adding to the manu\u00adfac\u00adtu\u00adrer, is expec\u00adted to achieve a range of up to 650 kilo\u00adme\u00adters thanks to its 350-bar pres\u00adsu\u00adri\u00adzed hydro\u00adgen tech\u00adno\u00adlogy. With an output of up to 350 kW and a Port Fuel Injec\u00adtion (PFI) system, it is inten\u00added to offer a proven and powerful solu\u00adtion for deman\u00adding freight trans\u00adport. In the future, the tech\u00adno\u00adlogy can also be applied to other vehicle series.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>KEYOU then offers the vehic\u00adles to customers\u2014and, in the future, also in combi\u00adna\u00adtion with the emer\u00adging hydro\u00adgen refue\u00adling station infra\u00adstruc\u00adture, which is supported, among other things, by funding programs from the Fede\u00adral Minis\u00adtry of Trans\u00adpor\u00adta\u00adtion.<\/strong>  \u2014 This could also help drive demand for hydro\u00adgen and the corre\u00adspon\u00adding infra\u00adstruc\u00adture. Daim\u00adler Truck supports the deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment of hydro\u00adgen refue\u00adling stati\u00adons capa\u00adble of dispen\u00adsing both gaseous and liquid hydro\u00adgen. This allows all common forms of H2 to be offe\u00adred at a single station, just as we are accus\u00adto\u00admed to with gaso\u00adline and diesel. This inte\u00adgra\u00adtion enables the deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment of a stan\u00addar\u00addi\u00adzed infra\u00adstruc\u00adture while redu\u00adcing costs through higher utiliza\u00adtion rates. Today\u2019s hydro\u00adgen inter\u00adnal combus\u00adtion engi\u00adnes require gaseous hydro\u00adgen. Tech\u00adni\u00adcally, howe\u00adver, a tran\u00adsi\u00adtion to liquid hydrogen\u2014as Daim\u00adler Truck alre\u00adady uses in its fuel cell trucks\u2014is also conceiva\u00adble. This inte\u00adgra\u00adted approach makes it easier for custo\u00admers to tran\u00adsi\u00adtion to hydro\u00adgen-based transportation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Start\u00ading in late 2027, hydro\u00adgen-powered trucks can thus be intro\u00addu\u00adced into the market on a scalable basis to make a sustainable and measura\u00adble contri\u00adbu\u00adtion to the decar\u00adbo\u00adniza\u00adtion of road freight transport.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Two tech\u00adno\u00adlo\u00adgies, one goal: decar\u00adbo\u00adni\u00adzing road freight transport<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Daim\u00adler Truck is pursuing a dual stra\u00adtegy to decar\u00adbo\u00adnize its vehicle port\u00adfo\u00adlio using battery-elec\u00adtric and hydro\u00adgen-based power\u00adtrains. Battery-elec\u00adtric trucks are parti\u00adcu\u00adlarly well-suited for predic\u00adta\u00adble routes, inclu\u00adding heavy-duty long-haul trans\u00adport, and thus cover a large portion of custo\u00admers\u2019 use cases. Fuel cell tech\u00adno\u00adlogy offers advan\u00adta\u00adges, parti\u00adcu\u00adlarly in flexi\u00adble and deman\u00adding long-haul trans\u00adport. In combi\u00adna\u00adtion with liquid hydro\u00adgen, this enables ranges of well over 1,000 km with short refue\u00adling&nbsp;times.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The hydro\u00adgen inter\u00adnal combus\u00adtion engine, in turn, is charac\u00adte\u00adri\u00adzed by high robust\u00adness, lower system comple\u00adxity compared to fuel cells, and very little need for adapt\u00ada\u00adtion to exis\u00adting vehicle archi\u00adtec\u00adtures. It is also parti\u00adcu\u00adlarly well-suited for appli\u00adca\u00adti\u00adons with high payloads. Due to its compact design and the ability to utilize exis\u00adting indus\u00adtrial infra\u00adstruc\u00adture, the tech\u00adno\u00adlogy can be imple\u00admen\u00adted cost-effec\u00adtively. Trucks powered by fuel cells or hydro\u00adgen combus\u00adtion engi\u00adnes thus repre\u00adsent a sensi\u00adble comple\u00adment to battery-elec\u00adtric trucks for customers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hydro\u00adgen will play a key role in the decar\u00adbo\u00adniza\u00adtion of nume\u00adrous econo\u00admic sectors, inclu\u00adding the steel indus\u00adtry and nearly all energy-inten\u00adsive sectors.<\/strong>  Further\u00admore, exis\u00adting chal\u00adlenges rela\u00adted to infra\u00adstruc\u00adture and energy avai\u00adla\u00adbi\u00adlity unders\u00adcore the need for hydro\u00adgen in road freight trans\u00adport as well. As elec\u00adtri\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtion progres\u00adses in Europe, the power grid is beco\u00adming incre\u00adasingly strai\u00adned. Expan\u00adding the high-voltage grid accor\u00addin\u00adgly invol\u00adves considera\u00adble time and expense. It would be faster and more cost-effec\u00adtive to deve\u00adlop elec\u00adtri\u00adcity and hydro\u00adgen infra\u00adstruc\u00adture in parallel.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Against the back\u00addrop of recent geopo\u00adli\u00adti\u00adcal deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adments and Europe\u2019s contin\u00adued heavy reli\u00adance on impor\u00adted fossil fuels\u2014currently more than 50 percent of its primary energy comes from coal, oil, and gas\u2014hydrogen can help diver\u00adsify the energy supply.
