Munich \u2014 Copen\u00adha\u00adgen-based energy start-up Reel announ\u00adces 5 million euros in seed funding. This is led by Tran\u00adsi\u00adtion, a venture capi\u00adtal fund that focu\u00adses on climate start-ups. Other backers include exis\u00adting inves\u00adtors UVC Part\u00adners, The Foot\u00adprint Firm and a group of energy specia\u00adlists and foun\u00adders, inclu\u00adding Clime\u00adworks\u2019 Chief Project Deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment Offi\u00adcer Daniel Nathan and Netlify co-foun\u00adder Chris\u00adtian Bach.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In order to have a posi\u00adtive impact on climate change, the way in which compa\u00adnies purchase and use elec\u00adtri\u00adcity must change. Elec\u00adtri\u00adcity is one of the main causes of CO2 emis\u00adsi\u00adons worldwide (
\n IPCC 2022<\/strong>
\n<\/a>). Commer\u00adcial and indus\u00adtrial consump\u00adtion is respon\u00adsi\u00adble for two thirds of total global elec\u00adtri\u00adcity consumption.<\/p>\n

Reel offers compa\u00adnies an alter\u00adna\u00adtive to conven\u00adtio\u00adnal purcha\u00adsing of rene\u00adwa\u00adble ener\u00adgies, parti\u00adcu\u00adlarly with regard to proof of origin. This is because the appli\u00adca\u00adble certi\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtes are often criti\u00adci\u00adzed for not really contri\u00adbu\u00adting to CO2 reduc\u00adtions. With Reel, compa\u00adnies can conclude power purchase agree\u00adments (PPAs) that offer elec\u00adtri\u00adcity at a fixed price and reduce CO2 emis\u00adsi\u00adons by feeding rene\u00adwa\u00adble energy into the grid.<\/p>\n
