The EIF invest\u00adment is supported by the EU space initia\u00adtive CASSINI and the InvestEU program, as well as by the German ERP funds. Fund recei\u00adves addi\u00adtio\u00adnal invest\u00adment from SpaceX execu\u00adti\u00adves to advance NewSpace innovations<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Euro\u00adpean Invest\u00adment Fund (EIF) is inves\u00adt\u00ading \u20ac60 million in Alpine Space Ventures (ASV)<\/strong>, a German-based venture capi\u00adtal fund focu\u00adsed on the NewSpace sector. Funding is supported by InvestEU and the Euro\u00adpean Space Program\u2019s CASSINI Invest\u00adment Faci\u00adlity, as well as the German govern\u00admen\u00adt\u2019s Euro\u00adpean Reco\u00advery Program (ERP).<\/p>\n<p>With this invest\u00adment, ASV\u2019s commit\u00adted capi\u00adtal exceeds the 100 million euro mark and brings the fund closer to its target of 160 million euros, which is expec\u00adted to be reached this&nbsp;year.<\/p>\n<p>The term \u201cNewSpace\u201d refers to the private space indus\u00adtry, as oppo\u00adsed to the tradi\u00adtio\u00adnal, mostly govern\u00adment-run space agen\u00adcies. NewSpace ventures span areas from private laun\u00adches to high-speed Inter\u00adnet constel\u00adla\u00adti\u00adons, Earth obser\u00adva\u00adtion satel\u00adli\u00adtes, and ground or space equip\u00adment for track\u00ading space debris. In Europe, the NewSpace sector consists of a growing number of private compa\u00adnies and start-ups deve\u00adlo\u00adping commer\u00adcial NewSpace technologies.<\/p>\n<p>ASV is rapidly beco\u00adming one of the leading NewSpace funds in Europe. The fund focu\u00adses on the entire value chain of satel\u00adlite constel\u00adla\u00adti\u00adons and Earth obser\u00adva\u00adtion. To date, ASV has alre\u00adady inves\u00adted in four compa\u00adnies: small satel\u00adlite manu\u00adfac\u00adtu\u00adrer Reflex Aero\u00adspace, elec\u00adtric propul\u00adsion company Morpheus Space, carbon compo\u00adsi\u00adtes expert Black\u00adwave, and Source Energy, a provi\u00adder of inte\u00adgra\u00adted energy solu\u00adti\u00adons for spacecraft.<\/p>\n<p>The fund was foun\u00added by <strong>B\u00fclent Altan and Joram Voelk\u00adlein<\/strong>. B\u00fclent Altan is co-CEO of laser commu\u00adni\u00adca\u00adti\u00adons company Myna\u00adric and is expec\u00adted to join the Super\u00advi\u00adsory Board soon (subject to share\u00adhol\u00adder appr\u00adoval). He was VP Avio\u00adnics, Guidance, Navi\u00adga\u00adtion Control at SpaceX, where he was also chief engi\u00adneer for Star\u00adlink, SpaceX\u2019s satel\u00adlite Inter\u00adnet constel\u00adla\u00adtion now opera\u00adting in 53 count\u00adries. Joram Voelk\u00adlein, a German entre\u00adpre\u00adneur and tech inves\u00adtor, alre\u00adady played a crucial role in funding Munich-based NewSpace company Myna\u00adric from its first round of finan\u00adcing to its IPO in&nbsp;2017.<\/p>\n<p>The Euro\u00adpean NewSpace ecosys\u00adtem is gaining momen\u00adtum. For exam\u00adple, German small launch provi\u00adder Isar Aero\u00adspace recently successfully closed a record 155 million Euro Series C finan\u00adcing round. Altan and Voelk\u00adlein were both foun\u00adding inves\u00adtors in the company and parti\u00adci\u00adpa\u00adted in seve\u00adral rounds of finan\u00adcing before forming Alpine Space Ventures.
