NRW.BANK successfully placed its first Green Bond in the capi\u00adtal market in 2023. The deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment bank\u2019s 14th green bond had a volume of one billion euros and was twice over\u00adsub\u00adscri\u00adbed. With the current Green Bond, NRW.BANK is refi\u00adnan\u00adcing in parti\u00adcu\u00adlar those projects in North Rhine-West\u00adpha\u00adlia that help to miti\u00adgate climate change and adapt to its consequences.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe climate-neutral trans\u00adfor\u00adma\u00adtion of the economy and society is an enorm\u00adous chall\u00adenge. To master it, capi\u00adtal flows must flow into sustainable projects,\u201d says Michael St\u00f6l\u00adting, member of NRW.BANK\u2019s Mana\u00adging Board. \u201cThis is precis\u00adely where we come in with our Green Bonds, enab\u00adling inves\u00adtors to parti\u00adci\u00adpate in sustainable projects in North Rhine-Westphalia.\u201d<\/p>\n
The current Green Bond will focus on promo\u00adting the expan\u00adsion of rene\u00adwa\u00adble ener\u00adgies. More than 450 million euros alone will be used to finance wind farms and photo\u00advol\u00adtaic systems. Just under 200 million each will go toward energy-effi\u00adci\u00adent buil\u00addings and the expan\u00adsion of climate-friendly trans\u00adpor\u00adta\u00adtion, inclu\u00adding e\u2011cars, street\u00adcars, trains and battery trol\u00adley\u00adbu\u00adses. 200 million has been earmarked for the rena\u00adtu\u00adra\u00adtion of the Emscher and Lippe rivers. This brings the total volume of funds commit\u00adted by NRW.BANK for the ecolo\u00adgi\u00adcal rene\u00adwal of rivers to EUR 3.8 billion. Further funds are earmarked for the expan\u00adsion of the fiber-optic broad\u00adband network.<\/p>\n
The effec\u00adti\u00adve\u00adness of the invest\u00adments is also shown by the analy\u00adsis of the Wupper\u00adtal Insti\u00adtute for Climate, Envi\u00adron\u00adment and Energy, which was recently published for the two NRW.BANK.Green Bonds from 2021. Accor\u00addin\u00adgly, the calcu\u00adla\u00adti\u00adons showed that the refi\u00adnan\u00adced projects from the NRW.BANK.Green Bonds 2021 will save green\u00adhouse gases amoun\u00adting to around 4.2 million tons of CO2 equi\u00adva\u00adlents over the ten-year term of the bond.<\/p>\n
With the 14th Green Bond now issued, the total volume of NRW.BANK.Green Bonds issued rises to a total of eight billion euros. Lead mana\u00adgers were Barclays, Cr\u00e9dit Agri\u00adcole CIB, Deka\u00adBank and Deut\u00adsche Bank. The company is listed in D\u00fcssel\u00addorf and in Luxem\u00adbourg under ISIN: DE000NWB0AU2. The mini\u00admum deno\u00admi\u00adna\u00adtion is 1,000 euros.<\/p>\n
With sustaina\u00adbi\u00adlity prin\u00adci\u00adples in mind, NRW.BANK has been issuing its own Green Bonds since 2013 and Social Bonds since 2020. It also invests in a sepa\u00adrate Sustainable Invest\u00adment Port\u00adfo\u00adlio to supple\u00adment its invest\u00adment port\u00adfo\u00adlio with desi\u00adgna\u00adted sustainable invest\u00adments. With a green refi\u00adnan\u00adcing curve, it offers funding reci\u00adpi\u00adents the oppor\u00adtu\u00adnity to finance projects that are in line with the EU taxo\u00adnomy for sustainable invest\u00adments at parti\u00adcu\u00adlarly favorable condi\u00adti\u00adons. This green curve is laid down in NRW.BANK\u2019s sustaina\u00adbi\u00adlity guide\u00adlines. The same applies to the orien\u00adta\u00adtion of the capi\u00adtal market busi\u00adness, which is based on the prin\u00adci\u00adples of the Prin\u00adci\u00adples for Respon\u00adsi\u00adble Invest\u00adment (PRI), which NRW.BANK signed in Decem\u00adber 2020.
