This first-ever report, which exami\u00adnes Euro\u00adpean venture capi\u00adtal funding trends in deep-tech verti\u00adcal indus\u00adtrial IoT, reve\u00adals a bifur\u00adca\u00adted trend.<\/p>\n
Indus\u00adtrial IoT, the sub-verti\u00adcal of IoT that focu\u00adses on indus\u00adtrial appli\u00adca\u00adti\u00adons of IoT, is domi\u00adna\u00adted by large indus\u00adtrial groups but also by a large number of start-ups that offer inno\u00adva\u00adtive solu\u00adti\u00adons in areas such as hard\u00adware and senso\u00adric, soft\u00adware & analy\u00adtics and connec\u00adti\u00advity. In its latest report, FCF has high\u00adligh\u00adted VC invest\u00adments but also exit acti\u00advi\u00adties (trade sale and IPO) of start\u00adups from the verti\u00adcal, focus on Euro\u00adpean start\u00adups in the obser\u00adva\u00adtion period 2017 \u2014 Q3 2022.<\/p>\n
A look at the deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment of invest\u00adment volu\u00admes and the number of deals reve\u00adals a split picture: Although finan\u00adcing volu\u00admes have increased signi\u00adfi\u00adcantly from EUR 650 million in 2017 to EUR 914 million in 2022. The number of deals, howe\u00adver, has been steadily decli\u00adning since 2019, from 407 to 163 deals in 2022. The decline in the number of deals thus began even before the gene\u00adral cooling of the venture capi\u00adtal market since around the begin\u00adning of 2022. Nevert\u00adhel\u00adess, the rising volu\u00admes indi\u00adcate that the sector is still attrac\u00adtive for inves\u00adtors and is thus successfully holding its own against slumps in other verticals.<\/p>\n

More volume with fewer deals natu\u00adrally means higher average and median volu\u00admes per deal. In 2022 in parti\u00adcu\u00adlar, the invest\u00adment volume was largely driven by three mega deals \u2014 KINEXON with EUR 119 million, Descar\u00adtes with EUR 107 million, and Nexxiot with a volume of EUR 102 million.
