With this funding, planqc will deve\u00adlop highly scalable room-tempe\u00adra\u00adture quan\u00adtum compu\u00adters based on atoms in opti\u00adcal latti\u00adces. planqc was foun\u00added by a team of scien\u00adtists from the Max Planck Insti\u00adtute of Quan\u00adtum Optics and the Ludwig Maxi\u00admi\u00adlian Univer\u00adsity of Munich and is the first spin-off of the Munich Quan\u00adtum Valley, one of the leading centers for quan\u00adtum tech\u00adno\u00adlogy in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Current digi\u00adtal quan\u00adtum compu\u00adters are limi\u00adted by both the number of qubits used and their gate quality. While the number of qubits limits the amount of infor\u00adma\u00adtion that can be proces\u00adsed, the limi\u00adted gate quality inevi\u00adta\u00adbly leads to errors in the result of a compu\u00adta\u00adtion (so-called noise). While these NISQ (short for noisy inter\u00adme\u00addiate-scale quan\u00adtum) compu\u00adters have recently outper\u00adfor\u00admed clas\u00adsi\u00adcal compu\u00adters on some abstract problems, they are still far from a \u201cquan\u00adtum advan\u00adtage\u201d for indus\u00adtry-rele\u00advant problems.
