The loan will support the rese\u00adarch and deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment of a mono\u00adclonal anti\u00adbody against COVID-19. It will also be used for the first phase of three other vaccine rese\u00adarch and deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment projects. The combi\u00adned use of geno\u00admics, advan\u00adced mathe\u00adma\u00adtics and arti\u00adfi\u00adcial intel\u00adli\u00adgence in the funded projects is expec\u00adted to signi\u00adfi\u00adcantly reduce the dura\u00adtion and cost of development.<\/p>\n<p>As the EU Mala\u00adria Fund is domic\u00adi\u00adled in Germany, the loan is subject to German law. It is the first of five annual loans from the new fund with a total volume of more than 46 million euros. At the same time, it marks the largest seed finan\u00adcing to date for an Italian start-up in the biotech sector.<\/p>\n<p>Achil\u00adles Vacci\u00adnes, based in Siena, Italy, focu\u00adses on the rese\u00adarch and deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment of vacci\u00adnes against mala\u00adria and other serious infec\u00adtious diseases.<\/p>\n<p>The EU Mala\u00adria Fund is finan\u00adced, among others, by <strong>Innov\u00adFin EU<\/strong> and the Euro\u00adpean Fund for Stra\u00adte\u00adgic Invest\u00adments, two joint initia\u00adti\u00adves of the Euro\u00adpean Invest\u00adment Bank and the Euro\u00adpean Commis\u00adsion, the <strong>Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foun\u00adda\u00adtion <\/strong>, and <strong>the Monte dei Paschi di Siena Foun\u00adda\u00adtion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Advi\u00adsor Mala\u00adria Fund: Dentons<\/strong> <strong>(Frank\u00adfurt)<\/strong><br>\nby part\u00adners Dr. Arne Kl\u00fcwer and Dirk-Reiner Voss and coun\u00adsels Verena Etzel and Oda Elmou\u00adtaoua\u00adkil.
