The reason for the signi\u00adfi\u00adcant decline compared to the corre\u00adspon\u00adding period of the previous year, when conso\u00adli\u00adda\u00adted net income amoun\u00adted to 27.7 million euros, is the lower result from the invest\u00adment busi\u00adness: A lower valua\u00adtion result could not be fully compen\u00adsa\u00adted by posi\u00adtive earnings contri\u00adbu\u00adti\u00adons from disposals.<\/p>\n<p>In its 2018\/2019 half-year report, DBAG had repor\u00adted that most port\u00adfo\u00adlio compa\u00adnies had budgeted for higher reve\u00adnues and earnings in 2019 and conside\u00adred them\u00adsel\u00adves to be on a good track. This has not chan\u00adged in prin\u00adci\u00adple. In the mean\u00adtime, howe\u00adver, there have been incre\u00adasing signs of a slow\u00addown in econo\u00admic momen\u00adtum \u2014 partly due to the simme\u00adring global trade conflicts. This leads to lower than expec\u00adted earnings at some port\u00adfo\u00adlio compa\u00adnies and thus has a nega\u00adtive impact on the valua\u00adtion of the port\u00adfo\u00adlio compa\u00adnies and earnings from the invest\u00adment busi\u00adness. In the third quar\u00adter of the current fiscal year in parti\u00adcu\u00adlar, there was also a nega\u00adtive earnings contri\u00adbu\u00adtion from the change in the debt of the port\u00adfo\u00adlio compa\u00adnies. In the case of one port\u00adfo\u00adlio company, for exam\u00adple, the finan\u00adcing of an acqui\u00adsi\u00adtion had impac\u00adted its leverage ratio and subse\u00adquently its valuation.<\/p>\n<p>Howe\u00adver, the fact that DBAG\u2019s port\u00adfo\u00adlio is diver\u00adsi\u00adfied is paying off. \u201cThe econo\u00admic slow\u00addown in various sectors contrasts with posi\u00adtive deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adments at port\u00adfo\u00adlio compa\u00adnies in other sectors. For exam\u00adple, invest\u00adments in the tele\u00adcom\u00admu\u00adni\u00adca\u00adti\u00adons sector with a focus on fast inter\u00adnet have recently deve\u00adlo\u00adped very posi\u00adtively,\u201d states DBAG\u2019s quar\u00adterly state\u00adment published today. On balance, the opera\u00adting perfor\u00admance of the port\u00adfo\u00adlio compa\u00adnies, i.e. the change in earnings and debt, contri\u00adbu\u00adted 6.2 million euros to earnings in the first nine months, compared with 13.3 million euros in the corre\u00adspon\u00adding prior-year period.<\/p>\n<p>The dispo\u00adsals of the share\u00adhol\u00addings in Infiana and Novo\u00adpress, which were agreed after the report\u00ading date, made a posi\u00adtive contri\u00adbu\u00adtion of 13.7 million euros to the conso\u00adli\u00adda\u00adted result. In both cases, the proceeds from the sale excee\u00added the carry\u00ading amount of the invest\u00adments as of March 31, 2019. The corre\u00adspon\u00adding value contri\u00adbu\u00adti\u00adons were included in the valua\u00adtion of the two invest\u00adments as of June 30, 2019. \u201cThe recently announ\u00adced dispo\u00adsals once again under\u00adline the success of our invest\u00adment acti\u00advi\u00adties,\u201d commen\u00adted Susanne Zeid\u00adler, CFO of DBAG, in connec\u00adtion with the publi\u00adca\u00adtion of the quar\u00adterly finan\u00adcial state\u00adments. And he conti\u00adnues: \u201cIn both cases, we have multi\u00adplied the capi\u00adtal inves\u00adted. Our success is ther\u00ade\u00adfore not reflec\u00adted in the valua\u00adtion result of a single quar\u00adter, but is only deter\u00admi\u00adned after seve\u00adral years, when we sell an invest\u00adment&nbsp;again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the begin\u00adning of the current finan\u00adcial year, the partly massive decline in the earnings multi\u00adples of listed peer compa\u00adnies, which DBAG uses to value its port\u00adfo\u00adlio compa\u00adnies, had a strong impact on conso\u00adli\u00adda\u00adted earnings. Follo\u00adwing a signi\u00adfi\u00adcant reco\u00advery in valua\u00adtion multi\u00adples in the second and third quar\u00adters, this capi\u00adtal market effect was again almost neutral as of June 30,&nbsp;2019.<\/p>\n<p>Earnings before taxes in the Private Equity Invest\u00adments segment reached 11.0 million euros after the first nine months of the finan\u00adcial year, down 12.5 million euros on the segment result for the same period of the previous year. This was due to signi\u00adfi\u00adcantly lower earnings from the invest\u00adment busi\u00adness. The fund consul\u00adting segment perfor\u00admed worse than plan\u00adned, with earnings before taxes of 1.6 million euros, compared with 4.2 million euros in the corre\u00adspon\u00adding prior-year period. As expec\u00adted, income from manage\u00adment and advi\u00adsory services for DBAG Fund VI, DBAG Fund V and DBAG ECF decli\u00adned. Howe\u00adver, there were also unplan\u00adned expen\u00adses, higher expen\u00adses for uncom\u00adple\u00adted tran\u00adsac\u00adtions and higher person\u00adnel expen\u00adses due to varia\u00adble compen\u00adsa\u00adtion for DBAG employees follo\u00adwing successful dispo\u00adsals and new invest\u00adments. Conso\u00adli\u00adda\u00adted net income of 12.6 million euros resul\u00adted in a return on equity of 3.1 percent in the first nine months.<\/p>\n<p>In view of incre\u00adasing macroe\u00adco\u00adno\u00admic uncer\u00adtain\u00adties, DBAG redu\u00adced its fore\u00adcast for the current fiscal year on July 10, 2019. Assum\u00ading stable valua\u00adtion condi\u00adti\u00adons on the capi\u00adtal market, it expects conso\u00adli\u00adda\u00adted earnings for the 2018\/2019 finan\u00adcial year to be at least positive.<\/p>\n<p>DBAG contin\u00adued to invest along\u00adside DBAG Fund VII in the third quar\u00adter of 2018\/2019. The MBO of IT services company Cloudf\u00adlight was the fund\u2019s seventh invest\u00adment. With the fulfill\u00adment of the legal requi\u00adre\u00adments, the invest\u00adment in the radio\u00adlogy group blikk was also comple\u00adted in the third quar\u00adter. This means that around 65 percent of the invest\u00adment commit\u00adments of DBAG Fund VII, which has been inves\u00adt\u00ading in medium-sized compa\u00adnies since Decem\u00adber 2016, are commit\u00adted. \u201cThat is why we remain confi\u00addent about the future,\u201d affirmed CFO Susanne Zeid\u00adler. \u201cWith these invest\u00adments, we have laid the foun\u00adda\u00adtion for future success.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>About DBAG<\/strong><br>\nDeut\u00adsche Betei\u00adli\u00adgungs AG, a listed company, initia\u00adtes closed-end private equity funds and invests along\u00adside DBAG funds in well-posi\u00adtio\u00adned medium-sized compa\u00adnies with deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment poten\u00adtial.
