That\u2019s accor\u00adding to an analy\u00adsis by<strong> invest\u00adment bank Bryan, Garnier &amp;&nbsp;Co.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 1040 global M&amp;A tran\u00adsac\u00adtions that took place in the health\u00adcare sector in the first nine months of 2017 were conside\u00adred: 132 acqui\u00adsi\u00adti\u00adons of biotech compa\u00adnies, 219 of phar\u00admaceu\u00adti\u00adcal compa\u00adnies and 689 in the medi\u00adcal tech\u00adno\u00adlogy sector. With a compa\u00adra\u00adtively low 21 percent premium on the respec\u00adtive stock market price one month before the take\u00adover plans were announ\u00adced, phar\u00admaceu\u00adti\u00adcal compa\u00adnies were 33 percen\u00adtage points chea\u00adper to buy than biotech compa\u00adnies. Buyers also paid signi\u00adfi\u00adcant price premi\u00adums of 44 percent for medi\u00adcal tech\u00adno\u00adlogy companies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile there were few large deals in 2017 and acqui\u00adsi\u00adti\u00adons such as <strong>Acte\u00adl\u00adion<\/strong> and <strong>Kite<\/strong> were excep\u00adti\u00adons, there were a lot of smal\u00adler tran\u00adsac\u00adtions and biotech compa\u00adnies in parti\u00adcu\u00adlar are beco\u00adming incre\u00adasingly expen\u00adsive,\u201d empha\u00adsi\u00adzed <strong>Falk M\u00fcller-Veerse, Mana\u00adging Part\u00adner of Bryan Garnier in Germany<\/strong>. This is not surpri\u00adsing, as biotech compa\u00adnies are incre\u00adasingly recei\u00adving appr\u00adovals for drug candi\u00adda\u00adtes that repre\u00adsent a thera\u00adpeu\u00adtic breakth\u00adrough. \u201cAnd these are exactly the kind of products that the big pharma compa\u00adnies need for their own pipelines.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Compared to previous years, health\u00adcare compa\u00adnies raised record amounts world\u00adwide in 2017: After just nine months, the volume of equity raised (private place\u00adments), at $9 billion, excee\u00added the levels of 2016 ($8.1 billion) and 2015 ($6.1 billion).
