Berlin \u2014 \u201cThe German invest\u00adment market has shaken off the Corona shock. 6.6 billion inves\u00adted invest\u00adment compa\u00adnies in this coun\u00adtry in the first half of 2021,\u201d said Frank H\u00fcther (photo), board spokes\u00adman of the German Private Equity and Venture Capi\u00adtal Asso\u00adcia\u00adtion (BVK) on the preli\u00admi\u00adnary market figu\u00adres. \u201cAfter a record year in 2019 with invest\u00adments of \u20ac15.7 billion and an almost equally strong 2020 with \u20ac14.8 billion, we are well on track to reach this invest\u00adment level again in the current year. The market is curr\u00adently show\u00ading a great willing\u00adness to invest in all segments and has left the pande\u00admic behind.\u201d<\/p>\n
Capi\u00adtal expen\u00addit\u00adures of EUR 6.56 billion repre\u00adsent a slight increase compared with the prior-year half, when EUR 6.44 billion was inves\u00adted. A total of around 627 compa\u00adnies were finan\u00adced with equity capi\u00adtal in the first six months of the year, 376 of them with venture capital.<\/p>\n
Venture Capi\u00adtal with record half-year<\/strong><\/p>\n Venture Capi\u00adtal cele\u00adbra\u00adted a record half-year. At \u20ac2.25 billion, invest\u00adment compa\u00adnies have never inves\u00adted so much venture capi\u00adtal in Germany in a single six-month period. This not only doubled the volume of the first half of the previous year (\u20ac1.06 billion), but alre\u00adady excee\u00added the invest\u00adments for the full year 2020 (\u20ac1.94 billion). The main reason for this is the large number of triple-digit finan\u00adcing rounds for mainly unicorn start-ups such as Celo\u00adnis, Trade Repu\u00adblic, Flix Mobi\u00adlity, Wefox <\/strong>and Scalable Capi\u00adtal<\/strong>. Here, invest\u00adment compa\u00adnies have substan\u00adti\u00adally co-inves\u00adted along\u00adside other inves\u00adtors. \u201cVenture capi\u00adtal is curr\u00adently booming and the mood is excel\u00adlent. Covid-19 is no longer a burden,\u201d says Ulrike Hinrichs, mana\u00adging board member of BVK. \u201cWe need to use this momen\u00adtum to create more beacons like the German Unicorns, but also to further advance venture capi\u00adtal across the board.\u201d<\/p>\n Buy-outs with signi\u00adfi\u00adcant decline<\/strong><\/p>\n Buy-out invest\u00adments tota\u00adled \u20ac2.39 billion in the first six months of the year. This was well below the prior-year figu\u00adres (H1: EUR 5.08 billion, H2: EUR 6.55 billion). \u201cHowe\u00adver, we expect some of the recently announ\u00adced tran\u00adsac\u00adtions to be comple\u00adted by the end of the year, and invest\u00adments to pick up noti\u00adce\u00adably in the second half of the year,\u201d says Hinrichs, clas\u00adsi\u00adfy\u00ading the figu\u00adres. The largest tran\u00adsac\u00adtions announ\u00adced or alre\u00adady comple\u00adted so far this year include Birken\u00adstock, Roden\u00adstock, Tenta\u00admus Analy\u00adtics, think-cell Soft\u00adware <\/strong>or Engel&V\u00f6lkers<\/strong>. \u201cOver\u00adall, we are seeing a flurry of buyout acti\u00advity, which just picked up again in the middle of the year,\u201d Hinrichs adds. As in the previous year, 65 buy-outs were coun\u00adted in the first six months.<\/p>\n The mostly SME-orien\u00adted mino\u00adrity share\u00adhol\u00addings (growth, repla\u00adce\u00adment and turn\u00adaround finan\u00adcing) tota\u00adled EUR 1.91 billion, signi\u00adfi\u00adcantly excee\u00adding the prior-year level (H1: EUR 0.29 billion, H2: EUR 0.97 billion).
