The under\u00adly\u00ading wave\u00adguide-inte\u00adgra\u00adted SNSPD approach can be used for photo\u00adnic quan\u00adtum compu\u00adting, quan\u00adtum key distri\u00adbu\u00adtion, micro\u00adscopy, or other sens\u00ading appli\u00adca\u00adti\u00adons that require highly effec\u00adtive detec\u00adtion of light down to the single photon level. During the start-up phase Pixel Photo\u00adnics was supported by the REACH EUREGIO Start-up Center in M\u00fcns\u00adter as well as&nbsp;EXIST.<\/p>\n<p>Quan\u00adto\u00adna\u00adtion and HTGF co-led the seed funding round with serial foun\u00adder, former venture capi\u00adtal mana\u00adger and photo\u00adnics indus\u00adtry expert Dr. Hendrik Sabert. With this funding, Pixel Photo\u00adnics will further expand its inter\u00adna\u00adtio\u00adnal team in Germany, expand its premi\u00adses at the Center for Nano\u00adtech\u00adno\u00adlogy (CeNTech) in M\u00fcns\u00adter, and acce\u00adle\u00adrate the commer\u00adcia\u00adliza\u00adtion of its products. Pixel Photo\u00adnics bene\u00adfits from the excel\u00adlent inter\u00adna\u00adtio\u00adnal network within Quan\u00adto\u00adna\u00adti\u00adon\u2019s quan\u00adtum tech\u00adno\u00adlogy commu\u00adnity as well as from HTGF\u2019s large indus\u00adtrial tech\u00adno\u00adlogy portfolio.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPixel Photo\u00adnics\u2019 unique tech\u00adno\u00adlo\u00adgi\u00adcal approach to single photon detec\u00adtion combi\u00adnes scala\u00adbi\u00adlity with high detec\u00adtion effi\u00adci\u00adency at very high speed. This enables new appli\u00adca\u00adti\u00adons as well as scaling up the number of photons used in quan\u00adtum compu\u00adting or data rates in quan\u00adtum cryp\u00adto\u00adgra\u00adphy without incre\u00adasing tech\u00adni\u00adcal comple\u00adxity. The team of physi\u00adcists and entre\u00adpre\u00adneurs that emer\u00adged from Prof. Pernice\u2019s and Prof. Schu\u00adck\u2019s groups convin\u00adced us with their vision and exper\u00adtise,\u201d said Chris\u00adto\u00adphe Jurc\u00adzak, part\u00adner at Quantonation.<\/p>\n<p>In addi\u00adtion to this important inves\u00adtor funding, Pixel Photo\u00adnics and the Depart\u00adment of Physics at West\u00adf\u00e4\u00adli\u00adsche Wilhelms-Univer\u00adsi\u00adt\u00e4t (WWU) M\u00fcns\u00adter have been awarded \u20ac2.6 million in rese\u00adarch funding from the German Fede\u00adral Minis\u00adtry of Educa\u00adtion and Rese\u00adarch (BMBF) to use quan\u00adtum physics to improve data secu\u00adrity. The aim of the so-called QSAMIS project, which is funded under the BMBF program \u201cEnab\u00adling Start-up \u2014 Start-ups in Quan\u00adtum Tech\u00adno\u00adlo\u00adgies and Photo\u00adnics\u201d, is to deve\u00adlop the first giga\u00adbit QKD (Quan\u00adtum Key Distri\u00adbu\u00adtion) system with a signi\u00adfi\u00adcantly increased trans\u00admis\u00adsion rate to enable quan\u00adtum-safe commu\u00adni\u00adca\u00adtion for broad\u00adband networks.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The idea came from Prof. Wolf\u00adram Pernice and Prof. Cars\u00adten Schuck<\/strong><br>\nThe idea for Pixel Photo\u00adnics\u2019 detec\u00adtor design origi\u00adna\u00adted years ago from the rese\u00adarch of Prof. Wolf\u00adram Pernice and Prof. Cars\u00adten Schuck. Scien\u00adtists repea\u00adtedly expres\u00adsed the need for single photon detec\u00adtors with nume\u00adrous chan\u00adnels in combi\u00adna\u00adtion with addi\u00adtio\u00adnal func\u00adtion\u00ada\u00adli\u00adties from inte\u00adgra\u00adted optics at confe\u00adren\u00adces.
